Maria Jose “MJ” is an experienced bilingual corporate attorney with almost 10 years of proven global experience in representing startups and emerging companies, venture capital investors, strategic corporate investors, private equity investors and private and public companies, throughout the corporate lifecycle and across a range of sectors, including fintech, insurtech, blockchain, technology, software, hardware, life sciences, healthcare, biotechnology, and digital health.

After years of having the opportunity to work with so many inspiring founders and their startups, MJ realized that there was room for innovation and improvement in the legal field. She wanted to create an innovative and alternative fee structure that would allow clients access to top quality legal counsel in an affordable and sustainable way.

MJ works with both domestic and international clients on a variety of matters in connection with corporate law and regulatory matters. As a Latin American immigrant, MJ knows firsthand the reality of the statistic that more than 1/3 of U.S. innovators are born outside the U.S. She believes that non-U.S. founders and business are often an untapped force for innovation and growth and takes great pride in providing them guidance and support in entering the U.S. market.

MJ works with funds, accelerators, incubators, and other organizations as a legal mentor and enjoys providing workshops, education, office hours and guidance to startups and founders in these programs. MJ is also a speaker on conferences and panels on topics related to venture capital, emerging companies, legal innovation, and law and its intersection with technology, biotechnology, fintech and blockchain. MJ is also committed to promoting innovation in the legal field, through a focus on legal technology, alternative fees and a true commitment to diversity and inclusion. 

MJ has an J.D from New York University School of Law and a Bachelor’s degree from the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
